In January, I set my word of the year as intentional. Intentional is one of those buzz words that can mean something different to everyone. Sometimes I’ll admit that it’s easier said than done. You know that night when you don’t have a plan for dinner so you just throw up your hands and order pizza? Was that an intentional plan? No, it was a plan thrown together in a moment of panic. What about that play date across town that you scheduled without thinking about your next appointment? Was that intentional? Probably not. You know that you’ll be stressed trying not to be late to the next appointment the entire time you’re there.
Now, I know you’re asking where do hobbies come into play?
Time to think
Have you ever crocheted? Worked on needlepoint? Painted? What is there to do in those moments other than to get lost in your craft and let your mind drift off. It’s like being in the shower. All your best ideas come when your hands are too busy to write them down! Seriously!
The other night I was crocheting when I came up with the idea for this post. I mean seriously I’m yelling at my personal assistant, aka husband so that he can write down my ideas. It’s a well-oiled system. Don’t worry he’s used to me just randomly looking up and spouting off crazy ideas. That’s how this business got started in the first place!
You can take a few minutes at the end of your day to reflect on your day/week/life. In the same way, you came up with ideas through thought. I know that I’m sitting there clicking my needles together when I decide to knit and thinking about how I could have made my day/week better. It’s also a good time to think about all that I’m thankful for in my life. I promise that a gratitude practice is life changing, but I’ve already told you about that here.
Let’s not forget how important this is in our lives. You seriously deserve a break momma! I’m looking at you and all the hard work you’re doing. I see it every single day, and I know that I’m also living the super scheduled life. There is school two days a week, music class one day, and storytime another day. It is busy. This is why we deserve a hobby. We deserve a few minutes veg out in front of the TV doing something you enjoy!
See hobbies really can help you to live your most intentional #momlife. Plus, it can help you to keep up with the pop culture you care about in the world. I’m watching Gilmore Girls while I participate in my hobbies.
