A healthy lifestyle is important to me. It’s so important that I put it in my family mission statement. I’m not talking about the very basic idea of loving to get outside and enjoy walking through the neighborhood, but I’m talking about overall health goals. We do our very best to eat healthy which clicks off one of the points. The next part is, of course, the exercise function. Currently, I try to keep myself from living a sedentary lifestyle. That means I’ve set my daily step goal at 12,000 steps. This may seem small to some of you, but it’s HUGE to me because it is a stretch. I can easily make about 8,000 steps without any extra effort but that last 4,000 can be a beast.
There were several important factors to me in setting my step goal. The first being that it had to be a stretch. It was important for it not to be easy. Somedays this may mean failure, but overall it will mean success and pushing myself to meet a goal. This isn’t my only daily fitness goal. I also push myself to drink 120oz of water per day. That’s also a stretch. I can easily get 96oz, but that last 24oz is rough.

How do I meet my goals and still spend time with my little guy?
I reach my daily fitness goals with intention. I think about what I want to do with my day, and I think about activities that can keep me moving especially with the little guy. My step goal is important, but I can only walk circles around my house so much. The little guy also always wants to be side. It’s his adorable way of calling for you to take him outside! So I push for that last 4000 steps by playing ball or walking circles around the driveway while he plays with the water table. It allows us to play, run, and splash. It allows me to listen to his sweet giggles. It allows for us to both be active and enjoy the weather while it’s still great.
If I haven’t met my step goal by the end of the day, I will go downstairs in our house and watch television with my husband. This may sound counterproductive to reaching your step goal, but it isn’t for us. We watch television while walking around downstairs. It means that I sometimes miss a few quirks in a television show, but it allows us to spend time together and reach our daily goals. It’s a beautiful use of time.
What about that water goal?
I meet that goal daily by using my Thermos Smart Lid. There is a $5.00 off coupon right now! It’s incredible because I don’t have to stress about counting my water bottles. The bottle does it for me. This usually means I easily achieve three bottles before lunch which makes getting the rest easier. If I fall off the wagon and don’t have the third bottle by lunch, I can almost guarantee I won’t meet my goal. I try not to drink water too close to bedtime especially while I’m pregnant.
That’s how I meet my daily step goals and spend time with my kid. It’s all about involving them in your process and finding new and exciting activities. This winter we will probably play ball in the house. The good news is that he can’t throw that hard yet. I know the days are coming!
