We’ve already talked about how your cell phone does not make you a bad mother, but I think it’s fair to actually talk about how your cell phone isn’t evil. Your cell phone isn’t the devil, and you don’t necessarily need to spend less time on it. Let’s be honest that being a mom is hard, and it’s harder when you haven’t had an adult conversation with another human being in the last 3 days. You start to feel like you’re going a little insane. It doesn’t mean you love your children any less, but your cell phone can be a HUGE savior in this situation.
My son had a fever all weekend. This meant that I spent a lot of time couped up in the house. We weren’t really able to go anywhere because we didn’t want to expose him to other people and thus get other children sick. You’ve been there, right? You get couped up in your house and your head. You feel like you’re going crazy. It’s really only stir crazy, but it can feel a lot worse. This is the moment when your cell phone comes in handy. This is the minute you can pull up a news article and talk to your husband about it. You can search out friends on Facebook and see what is going on in the outside world. You can celebrate with long lost friends as they announce their latest major life event. You can be social.
Your cell phone can help you to get sh*t done. Yeah, you heard me. You’ve downloaded 100 productivity apps, and you’ve got to-do lists out the wazoo. This is a great time to clean out the closet or organize your pantry. You’ll feel great about getting things done, and it’ll feel like you’re living in a brand new house!
You can also use your cell phone to entertain your cranky child. You know they don’t feel well so it won’t hurt them to watch a few videos that make them happy. For us, it’s Little Baby Bum. He’s happy to watch them for hours really, and it’s a treat when he’s feeling icky. This saves my sanity because I’m not constantly trying to find something to entertain him for two seconds before he’s so over it. I can’t really blame him. Who wants to have an icky fever?
I play brain games on my cell phone whenever I can’t leave the house. Word games and card games are definitely a favorite. You can at least keep your juices flowing.
So you see that your cell phone is not the devil. You can use technology to your advantage when you need it and trust me we all need it. Now, I think I’ll go take a nap while the baby sleeps!
