Listen, I know we’re not all morning people. I’m not particularly one myself, but I knew I had to do something to appreciate the mornings more. It’s not like my child was miraculously going to sleep til 10am every morning. 7am is rise and shine time in our house. Do ya feel me?
I wasn’t exactly Oscar the Grouch when I woke up in the morning, but I need a little something to boost my day. I can hit the ground running, but I need a little something to look forward to.

Luckily, I’ve found some easy ways to game the system. I can trick myself into being happier to wake up in the early morning hours. It’s all about setting yourself up for success.
That sounds easy, doesn’t it? Like something we should all be doing but aren’t. I feel ya. I spent months struggling through the morning without setting myself up for it to be good. I’d stumble out of bed and have to search the refrigerator for breakfast for instance. I promise that it’s an instant downer to stare into a fridge and be unable to decide what you want especially when you have no motivation to cook. So, I want you to sit back with your favorite morning treat and set yourself up for success.
1. Go to sleep at a decent hour.
This hour is going to be different for everyone. For me, it’s about 11PM. I know that I need plenty of sleep and Fitbit has targeted 10:50PM – 7:05AM as ideal. I find that this is a pretty great sleep schedule. What is your ideal bedtime?
2. Prep breakfast the night before.
For me, I have a container of greek yogurt in the morning. It’s glorious. It’s easy. It’s delicious. I feel great about having it, and I make sure it’s full fat. What is your favorite breakfast?
3. Review your gratitude journal.
Ladies, I’ve talked about this before, but I promise it’s life changing. Every bad day can look and feel incredible when you take the time to relish in the good moments versus the bad ones. Reviewing those good moments will help you prep for the day ahead with a positive mindset. And that’s our goal, right?
4. Sit in your favorite spot and enjoy your breakfast/coffee.
I’m all about front porch sitting. I like to watch the neighborhood come to live every morning while I enjoy a few minutes in my rocking chair. It’s glorious. Plus, you can catch some amazing skies.
5. Check your calendar.
It’s a lot easier to enjoy your day when you know what’s coming down the pipeline. Today is your oyster, and you don’t want to start it by being late to everything, right? Take a few minutes in the morning to really go over your schedule and make your way from each item on it to the other with your time goals in place. Sure, you’ll have obstacles sometimes, but in the way of the boy scouts…always be prepared.
Now that I’ve shared with you how I go about my day, I want to share a few things with you that might help you.
