Routine is something that couldn’t have been stressed more to me when I first had a baby. Kids need routine. I think this is mostly true. Of course they’re versatile enough to handle some changes to it, but they’re in desperate need of understanding their days. I work very hard to make sure that Sweet Baby J has a consistent routine, but I also try to make sure it is varied. What is our daily routine?
Our daily routine looks like this:
7-9a: Wake up and breastfeed. This varies based on when Sweet Baby J wants to wake up.
11a-1p: Free play & breastfeed
1-4p: Nap. The length of this nap depends on Sweet Baby J, but it’s usually about 3 hours.
4-6p: Free play & breastfeed
7-8p: Free play & Bath
8-9p: Bottle and bed.
This is an average day. On Mondays, we go to the library for storytime at 11 so things shift slightly. On Thursdays, we have Music Together class at 9:30 so that also shifts things slightly. These two activities help add variety to his schedule though that is much-needed especially on cold days when we can’t really run outside and play. I’m sure I’ll be adding activities to the schedule as we reach the 1 year mark, but I try to keep things light so there is plenty of time for free play.
