Last night was a rough night ya’ll. The kind of rough night that makes you question how you keep your sanity. The kind of rough night were you’re still walking the floor with your 8 month old at 2am trying to remember what kinds of sounds might happen on the bus as it goes all through the town. Trust me I had to get creative. The kind of night that you’ll complain about to your girlfriends or anyone who will listen, because you haven’t had enough sleep. It’s also the kind of night though that reminds you exactly why It’s Worth It. Sounds crazy, right?
It is not crazy at all. I realized this as I hit the moment of clarity in the middle of the night. It was the moment when he had just fallen into his REM sleep and he involuntarily smiled at me. I looked at him and smiled sweetly knowing that moment was exactly why It’s Worth It. The sweet look on his face as he started to finally drift off to sleep was all I needed to help me carry on. I might be exhausted today, but it was that moment that made waking up this morning easier than it would have been without it. It was taking the time to relax and just let it be that felt like a major calm just fell over the room.
I think these moments are important to remember, because they are just as important as all the other wins in our life. We have to remind ourselves that the smallest of moments make sure It’s Worth It. Sure, you’ll have big moments and big wins in your life, but you’ll also just have those sweet little middle of the night moments that make you realize life is good. You have to enjoy and take what you can get.
Today, I know my baby is feeling slightly better. His little nose isn’t so runny. His ear infection is quickly going away. I know that life is good, because I have everything under control. Trust me, you’ll lose your patience sometimes, but it doesn’t make you terrible. You just have to take a deep breath and remember the smallest of It’s Worth It moments you’ve just experienced.
