As a new mom, I realize that there is never enough time in the day. It was with this realization that I was pleased CellScope had reached out to me to test their new Oto Home and Oto Connect with my idevices, and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the product. I demonstrated it via FaceTime to my mom, a registered nurse, and she was amazed at how great it looked as well. She wants one of her very own. The Oto Home device is exactly the same one you’d see at any doctor’s office around the world, and it’s easy to use. I simply put the tip in my son’s ear and the video screen guides me to his eardrum all while taking a video for a doctor to give a diagnosis. This seems especially perfect for those pesky after hours emergencies.
Here’s how Oto Home works:
CellScope’s vision is to make healthcare easy and convenient especially for on the go parents like us. This makes it possible for medical conditions to be diagnosed anywhere any time of day. Erik Douglas and Amy Sheng met working in Dan Fletcher’s Bioengineering Lab at UC Berkeley in the summer of 2009. They were working on cellphone microscopy to help with remote diagnosis of infectious disease in areas like Uganda or Vietnam. It was with this knowledge that they decided to do something a little closer to home, and I couldn’t be happier with the Oto Home so I’m sure glad they did! It was easy to use and I actually found it kind of fun.
The founders of Oto Home definitely had busy parents in mind with the creation of this device. I’m the kind of parent and person who likes to know exactly what is being done at all times when it comes to medical visits. I ask a bazillion questions about what blood work is being drawn and why. So I love that I can now see my son’s ear drum and understand what it looks like when it is infected.
Amy Sheng, Co-Founder: “With Oto HOME, we’re changing consumer behavior as we empower parents to take a diagnostic-quality video of their child’s ear and send it to a physician for a remote diagnosis. Families will be able to visually track their child’s ear health over time and have a better understanding of what’s really happening.”
I was almost giddy upon first use. The video is clear, and I could make out the ear drum without issue. Of course I was often right on it without any direction from the video screen, but I tested it out by moving it away. The video screen is clear and the arrow guiding you to the ear drum is accurate. You might even find yourself wanting to look at your entire families ears. I actually did! You’ll be glad to know my husband not only looks great, but he has beautiful ear drums!
The Oto Home is currently available for purchase in California. The doctors associated with Oto Home are California doctors who are board certified and trusted physicians. They have passed a robust screening process with CellScope and are available to provide remote diagnosis for your peace of mind and your children’s health. Unfortunately this is only available for iPhone currently, but they are working on a device agnostic version that should be available soon.
The good news is that I’m available to offer my readers a discount! Whoo hoo! The device is normally $79 with visits via Oto Connect, the service connecting you to the doctor for remote diagnosis, at $49 per visit. I am able to offer you 30% off! Please check out Oto Home and use the coupon code DAHLIASCENE when checking out for your 30% off. This coupon code will be good for 30 days. I recommend getting in on this now. You’ll be so glad for the time saved in your life and the reassurance you’ll feel by being able to get your son or daughter the necessary help for their infection earlier than later.
