We’ve gone over the 5 Reasons To Take a Honeymoon earlier this week, and I’ve shared with you Part 1 of our trip. Now it’s time to get into the real honeymoon. I say that because my hubs actually had to attend a business meeting while we were in London so it doesn’t really count as part of the honeymoon. Greece was our final destination and the island of Santorini did not disappoint. I’ll admit that there was so much more of the island to see than what we experienced, but we got to spend quality time together which was super important.
Santorini is an island in the Southern Aegean Sea. It is the largest island in an archipelago. The island is on the caldera. Santorini is basically what remains after a massive volcanic explosion many moons ago. We had a caldera view from our hotel. We selected the hotel as it was featured on an internet list of infinity pools you must see before you die. The hotel was the Andronis. We were not disappointed by the pool I’ll assure you. It felt wonderful especially relieving my hips.
Today, we will explore the view from our hotel! I hope that you’ll enjoy the journey with us.
Every morning started out with breakfast on the balcony overlooking the caldera. This was chilly yet pleasant. On this particular morning, we were up well before time for breakfast to be served. This meant they brought the hubs his Greek coffee up early so we could enjoy the sunrise. As you can see, I tried very hard to stay hydrated. I try to do this as early in the day as possible so I’m not up peeing all night. Can I get an amen from all the mommas out there?
One of my favorite things was watching the boats come and go throughout the day. I’d count how many were at the bottom of our hotel in the morning, afternoon, and evening. I’d look to see which boats had gone out and which ones were still there. I found it super fun. It was like keeping tabs on what was going on in the world.
The view from our room was incredible in all directions. This particular one shows a staircase that leads down to where the boats are docked. I didn’t even bother to think of the idea of venturing down. I barely survived the stairs in and out of our hotel daily.
Here you can see the restaurant for our hotel. We ate down there once otherwise taking lunch in our room versus trekking down the stairs. Often though, we ate lunch out. We wanted to experience all the Greek food we could after all. There were some really great local places and hidden gems.
These were the ruins next to our hotel. There were a few of these little treats around the island. I’m not exactly sure of the date of their demise.
Oh the cats of Santorini! We saw this little guy playing almost every morning. He would run the stairs and find places to hide and look at everything. He was a true curious kitty. It seems like every shop owner in Santorini owns a cat or dog plus there are many strays around the island. We put money in some of the shops collection bins to help take care of the strays of the island. I love how they all take them in.
This was our view of the rest of the island. Everything is just stacked on top of one another, and it is so white. It does help to repel the heat though so it was definitely a bonus. Clearly the Greeks knew what was up!
Finally, you can see the pool. The view from the pool was almost the same as from our room, but it was a little bit closer. It was incredible. I loved getting in the cool water during the heat of the day and just floating. It felt like the best thing that you could ask for during that time. It was the weightless feeling of total bliss. I know you momma’s understand!
Finally, I really enjoyed the cruise ships coming in and out of the harbor. They were unable to park too close to the island so they’d park way out and the passengers would ferry to Fira. One day there were 3 at the same time. It took me days to catch the little ferry-boat leaving the cruise ship and heading to shore and vice versa. We were pretty far away in my defense.
Honeymooning in Santorini was bliss. We were able to enjoy honeymooning! We were able to just relax. We were perfectly content. I’ll admit that it doesn’t take much to make me happy on vacation but honeymooning in Santorini was above and beyond. I hope that if you go there you’ll enjoy honeymooning as much as I did.
