Wow, I slept in this morning! I try to get these done the night before like a more organized individual, but I’ve failed lately. Last night, I put on the slow cooker to make some dinner and couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t getting warm. It wasn’t plugged in folks. Needless to say, I am not perfect right now. I did want to update you now that we’re halfway to having Sweet Baby J home with us! Here comes Bump Date: Week 20!
Favorite Moments: The anatomy scan. It was so precious seeing those cute little baby feet! Seriously is there anything cuter? I keep telling my hubs that I’m so ready for new baby smell around here. The baby is on my right side with its entire body folded in half.
Eating: A lot of chicken and my once weekly dose of salmon. The truth is that I never really liked beef so these are always the things that keep me sustained. I know everyone worries about the mercury content in fish during pregnancy, but I’ve discovered through talking with the midwife that once a week is okay for me. I gotta have those Omega 3 Fatty Acids!
Drinking: Lots and lots of water. I also throw in a little Sprite and Root Beer. I try to avoid caffeine, but the midwife says I can use it as headache relief if it helps. Obviously she means for me not to overdo it. Moderation is key with most things I believe.
Feeling: Some movement from the baby. I don’t feel it all the time, but I do when it gets quiet. According to my Glow Nurture app this is normal. I don’t trust the app with everything obviously, but I believe it is the most comprehensive pregnancy app I have found. I’ve done a lot of outside research and am able to reach my midwife any time if things aren’t exactly feeling right to me. If you’re looking for a great pregnancy app though, I suggest you download this one. They also have a similar app for those trying to conceive or not.
Buying: Maternity clothes. We haven’t bought anything for the baby yet, but we do have $100 worth of clothes that my mom got for us when Baby Gap was having a sale. When they have a sale, they really have a sale. I got everything for $10 or less.
Gender: We’re not finding out until the birth, but I look forward to trying some of the old wives tales this week and reporting back the results.
Names: Baby J will arrive with a J name regardless of gender. We have settled on first names, and I believe we are there on the boy middle name. It’s still a back and forth on the girl middle name. We will get there though.
Craving: Root beer and red velvet cake. I indulge usually in about one can of root beer per day and a small sliver of red velvet cake. If I were just craving something sweet, I’d try strawberries and cream. For me, it’s red velvet specifically though so we usually buy one a week from the grocery store down the street.
Weight Gain: 15lbs. According to my family, I look as big as a barn, but everyone who sees me daily say that I look skinnier now than I did before I got pregnant. I think it’s just because I carry in the front so every other little imperfection about my body from before has just moved to the front. I don’t look pregnant at all from behind.
Missing Anything: A nice seared Ahi Tuna and crab. I really love seafood, and I miss the fact that I can’t just have anything of it I want.
Aches and Pains: Back pain when I sit somewhere with not enough support. Leg pain when I’m on my feet for too long. Hip pain from expansion. Plus, I have fairly frequent headaches, but these have lessened lately.
My Mood: For the most part, I’m a happy camper. There are a few times when I get upset over the smallest thing. My husband barely tripped on my computer cord while I was working, and I cried. I had to walk too far to the bathroom and I cried. Basically crying can be brought on by ANYTHING!
Exercise: Weekly dance class and aqua fit. These are definitely two classes that get my heart going. These allow me to do all the things I was doing before, but we have to slow it down sometimes of course. Otherwise I’m about to start a prenatal yoga program. You gotta get those stretches in folks.
Excited About: Our honeymoon to Greece! I’m also excited about getting things ready for the baby and all my nesting ideas. I’m really excited about little baby feet and new baby smell. If I’m honest, I’m really excited about a nap this afternoon too.
I would say that about sums up how things are going at 20 weeks. I’ve read so many of these over the years, and I find myself wondering about my differences. I have to remind myself that everyone is different. No one will experience this the same. If you are feeling different things than me at your version of Week 20 then don’t stress out. You and your doctor will be able to tell what is normal for you.
