Okay I’ll admit that today’s post is super late, because I might have overdone it slightly yesterday. It was over 100 degrees, and I’m terrible at knowing my own limitations. My hubs would also tell you that I’m terrible at asking for help so I guess it’s bound to happen at least 2 or 3 more times during this pregnancy. The truth is though that birthday parties are all the rage and they make you want to party. This one was no exception.
This particular party was Minion themed, because the birthday girl loves them! I mean let’s be honest…who doesn’t? I know I certainly thought the movie was adorable. Plus, they’re often not incredibly difficult to recreate. I can’t draw though so I leave that to others.
And the birthday girl was incredible happy. Isn’t this the real goal of a birthday? I can’t take credit for this. Let’s just say that yesterday morning started out with me putting flour into my butter cream instead of powdered sugar. It wasn’t pretty. I had a nice dough though, but the hubs says it wasn’t very tasty. This caused us to run late, and I didn’t even pick up a birthday card. My brain was not working very well.
Another dear friend though was able to keep it together and make an incredible and tremendously good-looking red velvet cake. Plus look at the little minions on it. It was beautiful and made with love. I think these are the perfect kind of birthday cakes. Sure, you gotta have the fancy cake from the bakery every once in a while to mark the big birthdays, but I also think that there is something wonderful about knowing someone loved you enough to make you one from scratch. Admittedly, I used a box for mine this time and the butter cream melted within minutes. I told you I didn’t have it all together yesterday.
Birthdays aren’t about having it all together. Birthdays are about sharing time with friends. It’s about celebrating someone getting another year older. It’s about celebrating the new wisdom we’ve attained. It’s about being awesome. It’s about minions saving the day. It’s about friends knowing you so well that it doesn’t matter you have 3 cakes. It’s about laughs. It’s about well in this case it’s about bubbles!
One of our friends is a bubble party specialist. Normally she comes to do a demonstration and class inside before taking a bunch of kids outside to play with bubbles. Yesterday, we just played in the bubbles! Is there anything that makes you feel more like a kid? It was all about laughs and shapes. It was all about just being 5 for a minute. Let’s hope your next birthday is as awesome as L’s was yesterday!
