What am I doing today? Well other than working I’m watching the United States Men’s National Team successfully exit the group of death. I have confidence! No one is out of the woods yet though. I always prefer to talk in the positive and get super pumped up. You can’t go into anything with a defeatist attitude after all.
It reminds me of the 1999 season in NCAA Men’s Basketball. I was feeling confident at the beginning of the season that my Duke Blue Devils would pull it out. I bet my Aunt Mary $50 that they’d win it. This is how close it came: Duke 74- UCONN 77. It was enough to give even the most healthy person a heart attack. I had confidence in my team, and I believe that one missed call was the deciding factor in that game. I congratulated UCONN on their win, and I wrote my Aunt Mary the check through tears. Don’t worry I always cry when Duke loses in the NCAA tournament.
Today though I’m taking that same confidence into this game. Clint Dempsey’s broken nose will not be for naught. Jozy Altidore’s hamstring won’t be in vain. We will have a team that looks good today and pulls out the win.
