I feel like this post should say I had dolla bills ya’ll, because we all know that wedding payments drain the bank account. It would be hard to do a wedding that didn’t even on the smallest of budgets, and boy is money stressful. The truth is though that you can make this easier on yourself in a few ways.
1. Keep track of how much you owe
You do not want to overspend. You should have set your budget and looked at where you wanted to spend the money early on in planning, which means this should be easier. Sometimes of course you are going to go over budget on something that is important to you. In this case, you will have found something that was less important to you and cut what you spend there.
2. Keep track of what you paid in deposits
You don’t want to trust only your vendor to know how much you owe them. I’m not saying that everyone in the world will try to cheat you, but there are a few bad apples out there. You will want to be on top of this by knowing exactly what the final cost agreement was and being able to subtract your deposit from that. Then you will be ready to make final payments.
3. And finally, MAKE THE PAYMENTS EARLY WHENEVER POSSIBLE!
This means you shouldn’t procrastinate. You have the money in your account now so pay them. I’m not saying pay them up front before they’ve done any work on your wedding, but I am saying not to leave it til the last minute. Your payments will be due somewhere between a month before the wedding date to a week before the wedding date. Of course you may have had to pay the venue 3 or 4 times by this point, but you know what you’re getting.
For me, I think most of our payments were due the month before our wedding date. This means I still have approximately 2 weeks before anyone needed to get payment. I’ll have you know though folks that I have paid the wedding planners, the photographers, the make-up artist, and the photo booth company already. This made me feel great. I am no longer stressed about these things, and I know exactly how much money I have left for incidentals.
Of course there are still some payments to go. We still have to pay the videographer, the venue, and the Rabbi, but that is it. I promise you that being ahead of the game will make you feel so much better.
