You’ll have to forgive my sinusitis ridden mind as I write today’s post, but I didn’t want to leave you hanging when it came to learning about my foodie pen pal! Kathy and I were teamed up together, and I was excited to get items from Indiana. For me the challenge was all about sending local goods from the farmer’s market here in the BP, and I was excited that Kathy seemed to feel the same way. The local items make it all the more fun to taste the differences around the country! If you’d like to join the foodie pen pal movement check out the link below:
I think it’s a great idea to have a pen pal. What could make having a pen pal better than also getting treats? I don’t know, but I do know that I learned a lot of interesting things in my box.
Kathy sent me several really neat items and a couple of recipes. One of them was an article from the Courier Press reporting a pizza made with Ski soda and Grippos chips. I should have attempted to make that for you today, but I’ll admit I drank the soda before that thought crossed my mind. You can see the pizza, here though. The Grippos were eaten soon after and boy were they spicy. You’re gonna need to be able to handle a little bit of heat for those.
The rest of the items I promise will be shown here on the blog soon in a recipe. The PB2 ties in with another recipe Kathy sent me for overnight oats. Essentially PB2 is a powdered peanut butter and chocolate mixture that transforms with a little water. I had never heard of such a thing, but I am anxious to try it. The maple syrup spread is something after my heart. I love maple syrup. As a kid, I would always mix maple syrup and peanut butter on a plate and devour it. It was sweet and packed with protein. Wasn’t mom proud? Last but certainly not least was some local Evansville honey. It’s always interesting to me to taste flavors of honey from around the country. The different pollens making things have such slight differences. Yummy!
Anyway that was my foodie pen pal package for this month. I hope that you’ll sign up and maybe we can be pen pals next month!
