I could act like this rainstorm isn’t a big deal, but it its. It is for various reasons most of which are just related to the way this city is built. Most things don’t have great drainage areas, and you’ll have a large amount of water pie up in a really ridiculous space. Such as yesterday, my boss couldn’t cross the street for a meeting due to the height of the water in regards to the curb. I’m not saying that flash flooding wouldn’t occur anywhere though that rain was falling at a rate of 1” per hour. It doesn’t matter where you live that is a lot of rain.
This won’t solve the majority of California’s problems either. Our drought is massive. Just last month, I was reading about 17 communities that would be completely out of water soon. This massive rain shower is only a temporary relief. We don’t provide a lot of our own drinking water anyway as it comes from a reserve in Vegas. Las Vegas is now running out of water so they intend to put a dimmer switch on that coming to Los Angeles so things will just continue in a vicious waterless cycle. What we really need is more rain on a more consistent basis or more snow in the mountains to melt down to us. I’m no expert though.
What I will do is spend my Saturday sloshing around in the rain getting my wedding dress fitted and attending parties. I hope you guys stay dry.
