How do you decide? What kinds of plants are out there that require very little care from you? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here folks, because we have a few things to consider when selecting plant life. First, we need to consider the kind of space you want to put the plant in. Does it need to be a large plant to fill a spot in your living room? Does it need to be a small plant to sit on your desk? Does the area receive direct or indirect sunlight most of the day? Are you going to remember to water it? Does it need to be watered? Okay so we’ve covered a lot of the basic questions here that you should ask yourself before purchasing a plant for your home or office so let’s look at a few plant life options.
The Peace Lily is one of the few low light plants that flowers regularly. You’ll want to keep this plant away from direct sunlight, because you don’t want the leaves to get burned. The plant also only requires a misting of water. If you keep the Peace Lily planted in pebbles and mist frequently especially when the leaves are getting brown then you will have a nice houseplant with bright green foliage for a long time. The plant must dry out fully between waterings. You should only water when the plant begins to wilt. Basically this plant will tell you what it needs so all you have to do it watch it blossom and grow!
The Jade Plant is a plant that requires very little water and can handle direct sunlight. Actually it prefers direct sunlight. This plant definitely requires very little work from you. Water liberally once a week and leave.
The air plant is gaining popularity right now, and it is probably the easiest to care for of all the plants I’ve featured today. You’ll want to keep this plant in an area where it will receive indirect sunlight and soak it in filtered water once a week. You will soak it not in it’s planter but elsewhere and let it dry completely before returning it to the planter. You may mist in between soakings, but only if you live in a very dry climate.
These were my top 3 favorite types of plants that required very little sun, water, or attention from you. I know that I’ve certainly not been the greatest at keeping plants alive over the years although our poinsettia from Christmas is still alive and kicking somehow. The truth is that we all live very busy lives and sometimes forget about our houseplants. Here though is an excellent start toward having some greenery in your house or work area.
