The hardest room for me to organize when I moved in other than my office has been the bathroom. As a woman, I have A LOT of bathroom styling gels, shampoos, lotions, facial washes, hair brushes, and make up. This doesn’t even include the appliances that are necessary for fixing your hair. The hardest part about organizing it was of course the fact that the cubby holes on the side of the sink were deep but I had no way of knowing where everything was at all.
The drawer was a mess because it was very thin. The amount of room I had to be able to see things that had just been thrown in willy nilly was minimal. These are all things that I think at one point or another we have needed to tackle in the bathroom.
I started by putting like things together. The bottom of the cabinet contains the hair appliances that I don’t use that often. The hair dryer isn’t something that I use daily and I certainly almost never use the curling iron. It also contains hair products and brush cleaner for my make up brushes. This was the best way to keep things organized, because I can just pull things out and put them back knowing that those like things always go together. The best part about this system is using purpose to define where things are kept.
The top area is my make -up, lotions, and face washes. This is a little more difficult since I own more of them and use them more frequently. I tried to place the most frequently used things toward the front with the least used closer to the back. It is super important to not be fumbling for everything in the mornings.
Next was tackling the door. These are the things that I just don’t want out on the counter for the world to see. My shower cap, toothbrush, floss, make-up remover, and about 20 different types of hair ties etc. These things easily fit in the containers I bought from JoAnn the other day and it keeps them from roving around the drawer as well. The trick to this is still keeping like things together. You don’t want to have to fumble through 20 types of toothpaste to get to your hair tie in the morning. You just want to be able to reach in and find what you need. I think I have accomplished this.
