Every time I go to Counter Burger, I notice they have an apple pie shake on their menu, and it made me think that I should figure out a way to incorporate one of the pies I make into a shake. Pumpkin pie seemed to easily lend itself to this idea. It isn’t too heavy, and it’s super popular this season. Once an idea is born in my head, it has to be tried out and you can trust me that this was a tasty experiment.
Ignore the sweet potatoes in the background and focus on what’s in the blender. We used half and half, fat free milk, and vanilla bean ice cream along with our pumpkin pie. The idea to bake the pie and then add it to the blender came from an episode of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Guy went to a restaurant that baked apple pies specifically for their apple pie milkshake. Honestly, I don’t know why anyone didn’t do it sooner since it seems like the easiest way to get the most authentic flavor. Well I can assure you that once you add a little bit of whip cream sprinkled with cinnamon and nutmeg to this beauty you’ll be so glad that you baked the pie first. Love had to test this one since I’m lactose intolerant, and he ate it with the piece of pie on the side. It was decadent. I had a small taste myself, and I was very pleased with the results. I can assure you that a whole glass would have been well worth the side effects of milk would create. I’m a firm believer in the fact that it won’t hold me back from trying tasty things. This reminds me that someday I need to try and recreate Ghiradelli’s peanut butter quake shake from Disneyland or even just put a little Ben and Jerry’s Americone Dream with some milk and enjoy! We’ve tasted both of those and they were more than worth it.
Anyway, there might not be anything more American than apple pie, but I’d venture to guess the pumpkin pie would be a close second so why not enjoy it in as many ways as possible. ‘Tis the season after all.
